Research

Despite remarkable scientific advances in the past few decades, cancer treatment continues to pose tremendous challenges to physicians and scientists. Because of this, it is imperative that cancer patients have the opportunities to be enrolled on trials that evaluate the efficacy of novel agents. Not only do these trials serve to develop new treatments for cancer, but they also provide opportunities for patients suffering from cancer to have access to new treatments that are currently in early stages of development. Thus far cancer patients from the Wabash Valley had to travel long distances to avail of the opportunities that clinical trials present to cancer patients.

Now at the Hope Center, we are part of US Oncology Clinical Trials Network, which provides a unique opportunity for community-based physicians to participate in pharmaceutical-sponsored trials. With less than 5% of cancer patients currently enrolled in clinical trials in the U.S., this network offers our patients much needed access to innovative anti-cancer therapies and protocols. With this collaboration, the Hope Center can support effective accrual and retention rates as well as promote continuity of care for our patients. Adherence to strict protocols and standards are reinforced by having a dedicated clinical research coordinator in the Hope Center to manage the data generated from the clinical trials and coordinate patient care from pre-screening through follow-up.
